Schoolhouse Chess helps kids develop learning and thinking skills by teaching them chess, which has been proven to help with logic, memory, analysis, reading, and mathematics. Chess is taught in a fun way, using characters and stories woven into a curriculum that begins with basic rules and extends into advanced strategies and tactics.

Students participate in two chess lessons a day, and activities such as Chess Art and Chess Drama are also on the program. Participants receive chess worksheets, personal attention, snacks, and more.

Student/Counselor ratio is set at 12-20/1, and the weekly Friday tournament includes trophies and ribbons. Six different sessions are available. Enrollment is capped at 40 students per session.

Birthday Party packages are available. Chess Master Instructors take giant chess sets to the party site to host a fun tournament with free gifts for all kids. Call for more information or to reserve a party.

YouthCity offers afterschool and summer programs for children. Topics include arts, academics, cooking, technology, dance, community service, martial arts, swimming, filmmaking, yoga, comic book design, chess, and more. The afterschool and summer programs also include field trips to places like Tracy Aviary and Wasatch Community Gardens.

YouthCity also has a Youth Employment program and a Youth Government program that are available to high school students.
