The versions of the plays you see here are not the versions you may be familiar with, but they are especially well-suited for children. Shows are performed Fridays at 7pm and Saturdays at 1pm and 4:30pm, with additional performances weekday mornings for elementary school groups. Performances are preceded by a short talk on theater etiquette, and the cast stays on stage after the bows to answer questions from the audience. Each person attending a performance must have a ticket; no babes in arms allowed. Tickets can be purchased by phone or in person. Box office hours are Mon-Thu 11am-4pm, Fri 11am-2pm, and one hour prior to performances. The School of the Arts portion of the organization teaches drama and movement to children ages six to 18 in weekly afterschool sessions during the traditional school year and Summer Theater Camp sessions. Three two-week summer camps are offered over the course of the summer. The school's Youth Stage program offers students opportunities to work with professional directors, set designers, costumers, lighting designers, and stage managers while receiving more advanced performance training. The group performs a few productions during the school year. The building contains six large studios, one small studio, three classrooms, a student lounge, dressing rooms with stage access, an audiovisual lab with computer stations and video and sound production, quick-change and physical therapy rooms, administrative and faculty offices, costume and scenery shops, and a sky deck. One of the studios can be transformed into an informal performance space. The formal performance space is a 333-seat professional theatre. It features 14 rows of steeply raked seating to permit all audience members excellent views. The bottom row of seating can be removed to allow for an orchestra pit. The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the Artsy Class for Teens in Salt Lake City, the Paul Green School of Rock Music focuses on teaching kids ages seven to 18 how to play instruments - guitar, bass, keyboard, voice, and drums - and ultimately, how to perform in a rock band. All levels of ability and experience are welcome in the afterschool classes, and kids can enroll any time. A graduate program for ages 19 and up is also offered. The school uses a specific curriculum to teach music theory while also teaching kids how to play with other students. Individual and group lessons combine with supervised group rehearsals each week to prepare kids for quarterly performances in "real" rock venues. The showcase rock concerts incorporate light shows and stagecraft, just like the real thing. Additional specialized workshops, field trips, and lectures covering topics such as songwriting and touring are offered throughout the year.
