Jessica Kahn, MS, OTR/L is a licensed occupational therapist at Blue Sky Therapeutics, LLC. She offers pediatric occupational therapy that focuses on the development of sensory and motor skills in children. Working with infants, toddlers, and children who have or who are at risk of developing delays or disabilities, she helps the kids cope with or overcome delays and/or disabilities such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder, fine motor deficits that include handwriting, and auditory processing disorder.

Jessica is certified to administer Samonas Listening Therapy for the treatment of auditory processing disorders, attention skills, and spatial skills.

Ensign Elementary is part of the Salt Lake City School District. Besides the basics, the school offers programs in foreign language, science, the arts, and technology. The school offers a preschool program for three- and four-year olds with special needs. Children without special needs are admitted into the program if space permits.

The mission of Just for Kids is to equip kids with the specific skills, tools, and resources they need to reach their greatest potential and participate and engage in their lives to their fullest ability. Susan Horn OTR/L started the private practice in 2005, and has worked as a therapist since 1991. She is certified in Ayres Sensory Integration, and can administer the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT).

Occupational therapy can often benefit children who have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, brachial plexus, autism, autism spectrum, developmental delays, sensory processing disorder, head injuries, and most genetic syndromes. It can also help children who need only to improve handwriting or their gross and fine motor coordination.

Therapy focuses on things like sensory integration, daily living activities (dressing, feeding, hygiene, toileting, and other home skills), gross and fine motor coordination, arm and trunk strengthening, school skills, writing, focusing attention, and transitioning between activities. Susan works with teachers and schools upon parent request.

Eight-week social skills classes are also offered. Topics include friendship, positive personality attributes, and social etiquette. Classes are open to children with and without disabilities. During school breaks, Susan teaches intensive fine-motor classes, and in the summer she offers handwriting groups.

Opened in 2005, Kids World Preschool educates children with and without disabilities in an inclusive environment. It offers specialized teaching for children with autism, PDD, speech delays, Down Syndrome, Asperger's, behavior challenges, Cerebral Palsy, and developmental delays. Students are required to attend classes at least two days per week.

Class size is typically eight to 10 children (approximately half with disabilities and half without disabilities) with 2-3 adults. The owner and main teacher at the school, Brandon Francis, is a licensed teacher with a degree in early childhood special education.

Every day, the children do "Work Box" activities, where each child gets one on one interaction with an adult to work on specific skills. Other daily activities include work on gross and fine motor skills (through play, arts, and crafts), music, and work on pre-academic skills.

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides free access to library materials especially designed for those with low vision or blindness or any type of physical disability.

Through NLS' national network of regional libraries, books and magazines on cassettes and in braille, as well as audio equipment, are mailed straight to participants' doors, at no cost.

Redwood Learning Center provides consultative services to parents who wish to set up intensive programs for their children with autism or related disorders. The center provides various levels of services for families in Utah and throughout the United States.

There are more than 245 Ronald McDonald Houses in 26 countries, offering support and practical assistance to families with very sick children. It's a safe bet that your local chapter can always use volunteers.

The classes teach infants and participating adults actual American Sign Language signs through music, play, and interactive fun. Through the use of signs, infants as young as eight months old can clearly communicate specific thoughts and desires, allowing parents to get an early glimpse into their child's personality. The program was developed for hearing children, but since it's based on ASL, deaf children can certainly benefit from the program, as can children with special needs or speech delays.

The Utah Parent Center is an organization devoted to helping families of children with all disabilities to ensure their children live included, productive lives as members of the community. The non-profit organization was founded in 1984. It provides families statewide with free information, peer support, training, and advocacy based on the concept of parents helping parents.

The Wasatch Speech and Language Center serves adults and children, treating a variety of speech, language, and swallowing disorders. Treatments are offered in either English or Spanish.

During the summer, an intensive treatment program for stuttering is offered. For children, the program combines treatment with a summer day camp format. Space is limited; call to reserve a spot.
